We offer preimplantation genetic testing that allows our PGT specialists to screen embryos created via IVF for genetic defects. Our system provides two diverse, revolutionary methods for testing. The first is preimplantation genetic screening (PGS), a technique that evaluates embryos of chromosomally normal genetic parents for structural or numerical chromosomal errors. The second method is the preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), a tool that highlights anomalies in embryos whose parents have a known history of genetic abnormalities. PGD can uncover sex-linked disorders, single gene defects, and chromosomal disorders.
We take one or more cells from an embryo and start testing while the embryo grows in the IFV laboratory. The testing can be done at different stages using different techniques. Techniques include fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH), microarray, and single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP).
All three types of PGT are performed similarly. The patient goes through their IVF cycle and egg retrieval as recommended by their physician. Their embryo(s) are monitored in our laboratory until day 5 or 6. They are referred to as blastocysts. At that time, a small number of cells are biopsied (removed) from each embryo and shipped to an outside laboratory for PGT. The cells are taken from a part of the blastocyst called the trophectoderm, which will eventually form the placenta. These cells are expected to represent the rest of the embryo; however, this may not always be the case due to circumstances such as mosaicism. The embryo must be frozen while PGT is performed. An embryo with average PGT results would be selected, thawed, and transferred to the uterus at a later date.
